Booking choice: The boat day pass for both lakes, from $50 per person. Check dates Tour details
BLS Schifffahrt runs the scheduled boats on both lakes, and its day ticket is the simplest way to use them: hop on, get off at Spiez or Iseltwald, catch a later boat, repeat. The 2026 price for both lakes is CHF 83 in 2nd class. The old CHF 79 figure still floating around on travel blogs is out of date.
Below are the full 2026 prices from the BLS ticket page, the monthly discounts BLS publishes on bls.ch, what the ticket covers on land, and the passes that make it unnecessary.
The quick answer
A 2026 BLS day ticket for Lake Thun and Lake Brienz costs CHF 83 in 2nd class and CHF 125 in 1st; Lake Brienz alone is CHF 75 / 112. Half Fare holders pay half, children 6 to 15 pay CHF 15, and under-6s ride free. Swiss Travel Pass, GA, Berner Oberland Pass and Eurail/Interrail (with the date entered) holders already ride the scheduled boats free.
How much is the BLS boat day pass in 2026?
CHF 83 in 2nd class and CHF 125 in 1st for both lakes; CHF 75 and CHF 112 for Lake Brienz only. With a Half Fare card you pay CHF 41.50 for both lakes in 2nd class.
These are the 2026 fares on the BLS Schifffahrt ticket page. Children aged 6 to 15 get a separate children's day ticket at CHF 15 (CHF 24 in 1st), and children under 6 travel free. There is no senior discount on the boats.

What does the Lake Thun and Lake Brienz day ticket include?
Unlimited travel on the scheduled BLS boats of both lakes for one day, plus Libero zone 750: the train between Interlaken West and Interlaken Ost and the town buses in Interlaken.
That land part matters more than it sounds. There is no boat between the two lakes: Lake Thun boats leave from Interlaken West, Lake Brienz boats from Interlaken Ost, and the two piers sit on either side of town. With the both-lakes ticket the short train hop between them is covered. The Lake Brienz-only ticket does not include it.
- Hop on, hop off at any pier, as often as the timetable allows.
- No seat reservation: seats are free on every boat, apart from restaurant tables.
- Not valid on culinary and event cruises, which have their own tickets.
- Bikes ride at half fare, capped at CHF 15, if there is space; a dog has its own CHF 15 day ticket.

Are there discounts on the BLS day pass?
Yes. BLS lists a monthly discount on bls.ch when you buy the day pass together with your train or bus there and back: 50% in April, 10% from May to October, 30% in November and 10% from December 2026 to March 2027.
The discount is tied to travelling to the lake by public transport: buy the outward and return journey at the same time, with any ticket or travelcard. BLS caps the number of discounted tickets each month. When the 50% quota is gone the offer drops to 30%, and when that is gone there is no reduction. Booking online is the way in.
November's 30% is the one to watch right now. It is also the last full month you can use the ticket on Lake Brienz: the Lake Brienz-only day pass is sold until 6 December 2026, the season's last day.
| Month | Day pass discount | Note |
|---|---|---|
| April 2026 | 50% | Half price while the quota lasts |
| May to October 2026 | 10% | June and September also had cut-price train tickets to selected piers |
| November 2026 | 30% | Lake Thun and Lake Brienz until the Brienz season ends on 6 December |
| 1 December 2026 to 31 March 2027 | 10% | Mostly a Lake Thun ticket by then: Lake Brienz stops after 6 December |
Arriving without a pass? The day pass covers both lakes and the hop between the two Interlaken piers.
Check dates for the boat day pass for both lakesDo you need a day pass with a Swiss Travel Pass, GA or Half Fare card?
Not with a Swiss Travel Pass, GA, Berner Oberland Pass or Eurail/Interrail pass with the date entered: the scheduled boats are free. A Half Fare card halves the price instead.
BLS lists 100% free travel in the class you bought for the GA, Seepass, Swiss Travel Pass (the Flex version on a day you have entered), Eurail and Interrail with the date entered, the Berner Oberland Pass, the SBB Saver Day Pass and the Junior and Children's Co-travel cards. Show the pass when the crew checks tickets.
For pass holders, the trips that add something are the ones on boats of their own: the jetboat ride, the kayak tour or the guided Giessbach day, where the guide is the extra. Three days or more in the region? Compare the Berner Oberland Pass, which adds trains, buses and over 25 mountain railways; with it, 1st class on Lake Brienz costs CHF 12 instead of CHF 40. More in our Swiss pass guide.

Is a day pass worth it, or should you buy single tickets?
Buy the day pass if you ride both lakes or make three or more hops. One out-and-back on Lake Brienz is cheaper on single tickets.
BLS's own example fares for 2026 make the maths simple. Interlaken Ost to Iseltwald is CHF 21 in 2nd class, Giessbach back to Interlaken Ost CHF 31, and the two together as a round trip CHF 52. The Lake Brienz day ticket is CHF 75. Add a Lake Thun leg, a stop at Brienz or a return by boat from the far end, and the day ticket wins.
A common plan that works well: Lake Thun in the morning from Interlaken West, the train across town (inside the ticket), Lake Brienz in the afternoon from Interlaken Ost. Short on time? Go out by boat and come back by train. One 5-star reviewer, Meire, put it plainly: "going by boat and returning by train saves time." Our getting-there guide has the piers and connections.

How does the day pass on GetYourGuide work?
It is the BLS day pass for both lakes, sold by BLS (listed as Schifffahrt Thuner- und Brienzersee), from $50 with free cancellation up to 24 hours before. You start at Thun, Interlaken West, Interlaken Ost or Brienz and show the QR code on board.
The listing is rated 4.2 out of 5 from 223 reviews. Read one line before you book: it covers Lake Thun all year and Lake Brienz from the beginning of April until mid-October. Late in the year, that makes it a Lake Thun day.
Guests mention two practical things. The two piers are separate, as Wendell wrote in Aug 2026: "Be advised that you will need to take a smaller boat, train, or walk over to Interlaken West." And Mike, in Jul 2025: "It offers a totally different perspective than the trains and/or buses."

Both lakes on one ticket, booked ahead: hop off at Spiez, Oberhofen, Iseltwald or Giessbach and catch a later boat.
